What strategies do you use to provide education and health promotion to patients and their families?
Candidate's Answer:I believe providing education and health promotion to patients and their families is of utmost importance and critical for patients to take an active role in their own healthcare and well-being.Also, it vastly improves their understanding of their conditions and medication, and also the importance of them following their treatment plans, ultimately leading to improved health outcomes for themselves and their families. Also, educating the families on how to help the patient or their family member with their condition is quite important also.I just find using strategies such as using simple language, so identifying what the patient understands currently and what their level of understanding is so that you can fill in those gaps.Effectively, there's no point telling a patient things they already know when you could be spending time on teaching them what they don't.Also referring to multidisciplinary teams such as physiotherapists or a dietitian or dietetics educator would be awesome as well. Also answering any of the patients questions allowing time for them to ask.Questions of their concerns. So I find all of these strategies allows them to make educated, well informed decisions for themselves which leads to better health outcomes.
